Nathaniel Gleason, MD

Professor

Nathaniel Gleason MD is a UCSF Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the San Francisco VA Medical Center where he practices as a primary care physician and teaches medical students and residents. He attended UCSF for his medical degree and residency training in Primary Care Internal Medicine.

Prior to moving to the VA, Dr. Gleason developed an eConsult program at UCSF, offering primary care providers timely access to specialist expertise and allowing patients to avoid the travel, work absence, and other costs associated with a visit to the specialist’s office. With funding from the UC Office of the President and a Medicare innovation grant with Association of American Medical Colleges, Dr. Gleason led dissemination of this eConsult platform across all UC Health Systems and additional Academic Medical Centers nationally. The implementation grants provided firsthand experience leading teams at each campus to understand barriers and facilitators of adoption of innovations by clinicians and patients. Dr. Gleason served as the interim Executive Medical Director for Primary Care at UCSF Health. He served as a clinical informatics lead at the UCSF Center for Digital Health Innovation, developing programs to improve access to timely, high-value care. He also served as co-Chair of the Chancellor's Committee on Disability Inclusion and continues to work on improvement of care for patients with disabilities.
