The patient care responsibility of the General Internal Medicine Division includes: outpatient primary care, emergency care, inpatient medical attending and medical consultation.
The outpatient clinics include the Medical Practice Clinics, which manage comprehensive care for 15,000 veterans, and the Women’s Health Care Clinic at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition the GIM division directs two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) located in downtown San Francisco (3rd and Harrison) and in San Bruno, CA. The Emergency Department at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical is staffed entirely by General Internal Medicine faculty. In addition, General Internal Medicine faculty members have integral roles on the inpatient medical wards.
